Indian Coast Guard commissions ICGS Akshay in Goa, strengthens fleet with indigenous Fast Patrol Vessel

The Indian Coast Guard has commissioned ICGS Akshay, a new-generation Fast Patrol Vessel, strengthening its coastal security and maritime law enforcement capabilities.

The vessel was commissioned on Saturday (27 June) at Goa Shipyard Limited in Goa.

“Named Akshay, meaning Indestructible, the Fast Patrol Vessel embodies the enduring spirit, resilience and unwavering commitment of Bharatiya Tatrakshak towards safeguarding the nation’s maritime interests. The ship reinforces the Service’s resolve to ensure safe, secure and clean seas while protecting India’s vast maritime domain,” the Ministry of Defence said in a statement on Sunday, 28 June.

Designed and built by Goa Shipyard Limited, ICGS Akshay adds another indigenously constructed platform to the Coast Guard fleet.

ICGS Akshay is equipped for maritime law enforcement, coastal security, search and rescue, marine environmental protection and assistance to mariners in distress.

The commissioning ceremony was led by Parama Sen, Additional Secretary (Personnel), Department of Expenditure, Ministry of Finance.

Senior Coast Guard officials, including Inspector General Bhisham Sharma, Commander, Coast Guard Region (West), and Inspector General Jyotindra Singh, Deputy Director General (HRD), were present.

The Ministry of Defence said the vessel strengthens India’s domestic shipbuilding capability under the Aatmanirbhar Bharat push. Its induction is expected to enhance the Coast Guard’s operational reach across India’s maritime domain.
