The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) on Wednesday, 8 July, successfully conducted the flight test of the Pinaka Long Range Guided Rocket at the Integrated Test Range in Odisha’s Chandipur.

According to a statement by the Ministry of Defence, the rocket was tested for a user-defined minimum range of 60 km.

The ministry said the long-range guided rocket demonstrated all planned in-flight manoeuvres and impacted the target with precision while following the predicted trajectory.

All range instruments deployed for the trial tracked the rocket throughout its flight path.

The Pinaka Long Range Guided Rocket has been designed by the Armament Research and Development Establishment in association with the High Energy Materials Research Laboratory.

The project also received support from the Defence Research and Development Laboratory and Research Centre Imarat.

The flight trial was coordinated by the Integrated Test Range and the Proof and Experimental Establishment.

The rocket was launched from an in-service Pinaka launcher.

According to the ministry, the launch demonstrated the versatility of the system and showed that Pinaka variants of different ranges can be fired from the same launcher.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh congratulated DRDO, the Indian Army and industry after the successful flight test.

He described the test as a major milestone in India’s indigenous design and development capability for long-range guided rockets.

Defence Secretary and DRDO Chairman Rajesh Kumar Singh monitored the trial and complimented the teams involved in the test.
