Bharatmala push: 1,068 km of 1,557 km approved road network completed in Gujarat

A total of 1,068 km of roads has been completed in Gujarat under the Bharatmala project, the Gujarat Chief Minister’s Office said in a statement on X.

According to the CMO, 45 projects covering 1,557 km were approved for Gujarat in the first phase of the Bharatmala project at a cost of ₹65,000 crore.

Of this, construction work on 1,068 km has been completed.

The Bharatmala project was launched in 2017 as a national highway development programme to improve road connectivity, strengthen freight movement and ensure easier transportation for citizens, industries and trade.

The CMO said Gujarat’s highways have become the “channel of progress” under the project, with major road links improving connectivity across cities, ports, border areas and coastal routes.

Key projects under the Bharatmala network in Gujarat include the nearly 125-km six-lane greenfield expressway from Sanchor in Rajasthan to Santalpur in Patan district, the Amritsar-Jamnagar Economic Corridor, the Ahmedabad-Dholera Expressway and the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway.

The Packages 6 and 7 of the Vadodara-Mumbai Expressway were recently inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The CMO said the network of expressways, freight corridors, border roads, port links and coastal routes is expected to give a further push to Gujarat’s infrastructure-led growth and support the vision of “Developed India, Developed Gujarat.”
