Prime Minister Narendra Modi will flag off two new Amrit Bharat Express trains and lay the foundation stone for a key railway line expansion project during his visit to Varanasi in Uttar Pradesh on 28-29 April.
The Prime Minister will flag off the Banaras-Pune (Hadapsar) and Ayodhya-Mumbai (Lokmanya Tilak Terminus) Amrit Bharat Express trains, aimed at improving long-distance connectivity and providing affordable, modern travel options.
These services are expected to strengthen rail connectivity between Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra, while also improving access to key religious destinations such as Kashi Vishwanath Dham and the Shri Ram Mandir in Ayodhya.
In addition, the Prime Minister will lay the foundation stone for the Varanasi Junction-Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyaya Junction third and fourth railway line project.
The project includes the construction of a rail-cum-road bridge over the Ganga River and is aimed at reducing congestion on one of the region’s busiest rail corridors.
The additional lines will benefit Varanasi and Chandauli districts by reducing rail congestion, enhancing logistics efficiency, strengthening multi-modal connectivity, and ensuring smoother traffic movement.
The project will also improve access to Kashi Vishwanath Dham, the Ramnagar area, and National Highway-19, while strengthening rail connectivity with eastern Uttar Pradesh and Bihar.
Once completed, the corridor will support higher train frequency, reduce delays and improve overall operational efficiency in eastern Uttar Pradesh and adjoining regions.
