Delhi Metro has taken a structured step towards globalising its metro expertise with the appointment of Sanjay Jamuar as the first Chief Executive Officer of Delhi Metro International Limited (DMIL), a dedicated international subsidiary set up by Delhi Metro Rail Corporation.
The newly formed entity has been created to execute metro rail projects and handle Operation and Maintenance (O&M) contracts beyond Delhi, including assignments across India and overseas markets.
The move signals a formal transition of DMRC from a domestic project executor to a global metro solutions provider.
DMIL’s core mandate includes offering advisory and consultancy services to governments, transit authorities and financial institutions.
It will focus on long-term planning, system design, operational optimisation and capacity building for urban transit networks, drawing heavily on DMRC’s multi-city project experience.
Jamuar brings decades of operational and strategic experience to the role.
A former Indian Railway Traffic Service (IRTS) officer, he has worked across Indian Railways, DMRC and multiple international transport systems in the United Kingdom, United States, France, the Middle East and Europe.
His academic background includes a Post Graduate Diploma in Strategic Leadership from Warwick Business School, along with research work in transport economics at the University of Leeds.
His association with DMRC dates back to its early years in 1998, where he joined as the organisation’s first Operations and Maintenance employee.
His return in a leadership role is expected to anchor DMIL’s operational depth while steering its international growth strategy.
DMRC already maintains a strong consultancy and execution footprint. It is currently associated with the Dhaka Metro project in Bangladesh and is handling key O&M responsibilities for metro systems in Chennai, Mumbai and Patna.
The organisation has also contributed to construction and advisory roles in projects across cities such as Mumbai, Jaipur and Patna.
With DMIL now operational, DMRC is expected to consolidate these experiences into a structured global business model, positioning itself as a competitive player in the international metro and urban transit space.
