Indian Railways has approved deployment of Kavach Version 4.0 across 680 route kilometres on key sections of Northern Railway at a cost of ₹206 crore.

According to a statement by the Ministry of Railways on Friday, 10 July, the indigenous Automatic Train Protection system will be installed on the Rewari-Delhi and Shakurbasti-Bathinda sections of Delhi Division.

The deployment will also cover feeder branch lines on these routes.

The project is part of Indian Railways’ wider rollout of Kavach across high-density and strategically important routes.

Kavach is India’s indigenously developed Automatic Train Protection system.

It is designed to improve railway safety by helping prevent Signal Passed at Danger incidents and train collisions.

The system continuously monitors train movement and can automatically apply brakes when required.

It also allows trains to operate safely at maximum permissible speeds and supports train operations during adverse weather conditions, including dense fog.

The ministry said deployment of Kavach Version 4.0 on the Rewari-Delhi and Shakurbasti-Bathinda sections will strengthen safety and improve operational efficiency.

The system is also expected to improve reliability and support faster, technology-driven movement of passenger and freight services.
