Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) said on Thursday, 7 May, that Mumbai’s Santacruz Chembur Link Road Cable-Stayed Bridge has won the “Engineering Innovation of the Year” award at the Build India Infrastructure Awards 2026.

In a statement, MMRDA described the recognition as a national honour and said the award was richly deserved.

The Santacruz Chembur Link Road Cable-Stayed Bridge is South Asia’s first cable-stayed bridge with a 100 metre horizontal curve.

The structure features a 105-metre main span and a 2-lane ramp crossing over the Western Express Highway.

According to MMRDA, the bridge stands out for its extraordinary engineering complexity.

The project was built over live highway traffic, with an existing flyover and two Metro tunnels running beneath the alignment.

The construction required the erection of prefabricated structural steel segments under severe space and utility constraints.

Beyond its engineering features, MMRDA said the project is expected to deliver significant economic and environmental benefits by reducing congestion on major corridors, improving east-west connectivity and saving commuters time on every journey.

The authority said the award recognises its commitment to delivering world-class infrastructure that redefines mobility across the Mumbai Metropolitan Region.
