Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Manohar Lal on Saturday, 20 June, sanctioned more than 42,000 houses under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Urban 2.0 in Madhya Pradesh, while 38,000 families entered their newly constructed pucca houses across the state.
The announcements were made at a programme held at Sanwer in Indore district on June 20, in the presence of Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav and state Urban Development and Housing Minister Kailash Vijayvargiya.
According to the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, the sanction letters issued to eligible beneficiaries involve a government subsidy of ₹1,050 crore.
Along with the fresh sanctions, the grih pravesh of 38,000 families took the total number of families covered through the event to more than 80,000.
The ministry said the programme is part of the Centre’s wider “Housing for All” push in urban areas. Manohar Lal congratulated the beneficiaries and said every new home represents dignity, security and hope for families.

Madhya Pradesh has been among the better-performing states under PMAY-U.
Under PMAY-U and PMAY-U 2.0, more than 10.39 lakh houses have been sanctioned in the state so far, while 9.08 lakh houses have been completed.
The scheme is aimed at providing safe and affordable housing to eligible urban families.
The ministry said PMAY-U also supports access to basic services and livelihood opportunities, besides promoting women’s empowerment by mandating ownership of the house in the name of a woman member of the household or in joint ownership.
Under PMAY-U 2.0, the government is supporting the housing needs of an additional one crore families from EWS, LIG and MIG categories.
Eligible urban families can receive financial assistance of up to ₹2.5 lakh to construct, purchase or rent a pucca house in urban areas.
