India’s high-speed rail network is moving towards seamless urban integration, with the National High Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL) developing Multi-Modal Integration (MMI) facilities and modern station plazas at Bullet Train stations to enable smooth passenger movement across transport systems.

According to an official press release, these developments are aimed at ensuring effortless transfers between the Bullet Train network and various local transport modes, including buses, taxis, private vehicles and intermediate public transport, significantly improving last-mile connectivity.

The initiative focuses on comprehensive development of areas surrounding Bullet Train stations, creating well-integrated transport hubs that offer safe, organised and convenient transit environments for passengers.

Station plazas are being designed as vibrant urban spaces with features such as parking areas, dedicated pick-up and drop-off zones, pedestrian-friendly pathways, streetscaping, signage systems, modern lighting, CCTV-based surveillance, landscaping and plantation. Public amenities and advanced fire-fighting systems are also being incorporated to enhance safety and commuter comfort.

NHSRCL has awarded contracts for Multi-Modal Integration and station area development at six key stations – Surat, Bilimora, Vapi, Bharuch, Anand and Vadodara – marking significant progress in building integrated passenger infrastructure along the corridor.

By seamlessly connecting various modes of transport while creating accessible and well-planned public spaces, the initiative reflects a broader vision of building sustainable, passenger-centric transportation infrastructure in India.
