Union Minister for Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare, and Rural Development Shivraj Singh Chouhan on Sunday, 10 May, launched PMGSY-IV during the silver jubilee celebrations marking 25 years of the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana in Bhairunda of Madhya Pradesh’s Sehore district.
The programme also saw announcement of major approvals and allocations for rural roads, housing and development projects in Madhya Pradesh, in the presence of Chief Minister Mohan Yadav and senior officials from the Centre and the state government.
During the event, Madhya Pradesh received approvals under PMGSY-IV for 973 roads with a total length of 2,117.52 Km at an estimated cost of ₹1,763.08 crore.
These roads are expected to benefit 987 habitations across the state and strengthen rural connectivity.
The Vidisha parliamentary region separately received approval for 259 roads covering 600.393 Km. These parojects are expected to benefit 264 habitations and improve transportation and connectivity across the region.
Chouhan said roads worth more than ₹500 crore would be constructed in the Vidisha parliamentary constituency.
He said his priority was to ensure that no village remains deprived of road connectivity.
The Union Minister said all roads in Madhya Pradesh that meet the norms and criteria under PMGSY would be approved.
He also said concrete decisions would be taken after considering regional development demands raised by public representatives and local residents.
Under the PM-JANMAN initiative, road projects covering 384.34 Km were approved at a cost of ₹261.81 crore.
These projects are expected to benefit 168 habitations, especially in backward and underserved regions.
Madhya Pradesh also received ₹830 crore out of the total indicative PMGSY allocation of ₹18,907 crore for the financial year 2026-27. Chouhan described the allocation as a major step towards accelerating development in Madhya Pradesh and strengthening rural infrastructure.
The Union Minister also handed over a mother sanction worth ₹2,055 crore to Chief Minister Mohan Yadav under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana-Gramin. He said the government was committed to ensuring that no poor family is left without a permanent house.
Chouhan said eligible families identified through a fresh survey would undergo physical verification and receive benefits under the housing scheme. He said the government was working to turn the dream of a permanent roof for poor families into reality.
Speaking on rural development, Chouhan said village roads are not merely pathways for transportation but gateways to prosperity, dignity, education, healthcare, markets and opportunities.
He said the Central Government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi was committed to bringing visible and concrete changes in the lives of villages, the poor, farmers and women.
On women’s economic empowerment, Chouhan said the Lakhpati Didi campaign would be accelerated further through self-help groups across Madhya Pradesh and the country. He said the government would work to connect women with income generation, dignity, financial independence and self-reliance.
Speaking on farmers’ issues, the Union Agriculture Minister said no eligible farmer would face injustice during wheat procurement operations. He said pending verification processes would be completed and procurement of farmers’ produce would be ensured without discrimination.
Chouhan also said efforts were underway to develop a more beneficial and farmer-friendly mechanism in land acquisition matters so that farmers receive fair and adequate benefits.
