Gadkari reviews 7,667 Km of highway projects in Punjab, Delhi and Haryana ahead of monsoon

Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari on Tuesday, 26 May, reviewed the progress, quality and maintenance of National Highway projects covering 7,667 Km across Punjab, Delhi and Haryana, with the monsoon season approaching.

The review covered 4,335 Km of National Highway projects in Punjab and 3,332 Km in Delhi and Haryana.

According to the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, the review was based on inputs received through media and social media platforms.

The meeting was held in New Delhi in the presence of Union Ministers of State Ajay Tamta and Harsh Malhotra, senior officials from the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, the National Highways Authority of India and project contractors.

Gadkari asked officials and contractors to speed up on-ground execution of highway works and ensure that projects are completed within the set timelines.

He also called for stronger coordination between agencies involved in project delivery.

The minister stressed the need for continuous monitoring of project quality and directed agencies to use modern construction technologies and best engineering practices to improve the durability and long-term performance of National Highways.

The review also focused on riding quality and seamless connectivity across key highway corridors in Punjab, Delhi and Haryana.

Gadkari directed officials to maintain high standards in construction and maintenance so that commuters get safer, smoother and more efficient travel conditions.

He also called for greater accountability in highway maintenance operations and asked for regular inspections to identify and address deficiencies without delay.

With the monsoon nearing, Gadkari directed officials to take advance preparedness measures across all project stretches.

These include drainage management, slope protection measures and swift response mechanisms to reduce disruptions during the rainy season.

The minister also instructed agencies to remain alert and ensure uninterrupted traffic movement by proactively addressing waterlogging, erosion and other weather-related challenges.
