Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari has reviewed the quality and maintenance status of National Highway projects covering 12,011 Km in Rajasthan and Himachal Pradesh, following inputs received through media and social media platforms.
The review meetings were held in New Delhi on Monday, 25 May, in the presence of Union Ministers of State Ajay Tamta and Harsh Malhotra, senior officials from the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH), and project contractors.
According to the ministry, Gadkari assessed the quality and maintenance status of National Highways covering 10,064 Km in Rajasthan.
He also reviewed the quality and maintenance progress of National Highway projects covering 1,947 Km in Himachal Pradesh.
The review focused on the condition of highway assets, maintenance requirements and project execution standards in the two states.
Gadkari emphasised timely execution of projects, strict adherence to quality standards, and the use of advanced technologies and modern construction practices for building sustainable, durable and efficient highway infrastructure.
The minister said robust highway networks are important for improving connectivity, accelerating economic growth, enhancing commuter convenience and ensuring seamless mobility across key corridors.
He also directed officials to undertake comprehensive monsoon preparedness measures across the reviewed highway stretches.

These measures include effective drainage management, slope protection works, proactive preventive maintenance and swift response mechanisms.
The ministry said the directions are aimed at minimising disruptions during the monsoon season, maintaining road safety and improving the long-term durability of highway assets.
The review comes at a time when road quality, maintenance and monsoon-related disruptions remain key concerns across several National Highway corridors, especially in states with difficult terrain and high weather-related vulnerability.
In Himachal Pradesh, slope protection and drainage management are particularly important because hill roads are often exposed to landslides, falling debris and rain-related damage during the monsoon period.
For Rajasthan, the review covered a much larger highway length and focused on the maintenance and quality status of a major road network spread across the state.
The ministry said the meetings were part of the government’s effort to ensure better project delivery, stronger maintenance systems and safer National Highway corridors.
The review also underlined the ministry’s focus on using feedback from media and social media platforms to identify highway-related issues and take corrective action through official project-level monitoring.
