Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) recorded 90,14,959 passengers across its network in May 2026, according to ridership data released by the metro operator.
The highest single-day ridership during the month was recorded on 18 May, when 3,45,384 passengers used the network.
The NCMC Singara Chennai Card was the most-used ticketing option, accounting for 42,51,729 passengers during the month.
Single Journey Paper QR tickets and tokens accounted for another 19,76,230 passengers.
Among digital ticketing channels, ONDC accounted for 11,78,885 passengers, the highest among app-based and online platforms.
WhatsApp-based ticketing recorded 4,20,920 passengers, followed by Paytm at 2,84,249 and PhonePe at 2,51,093.
The Chennai One App accounted for 1,97,773 passengers, while online ticket bookings contributed 1,34,850 passengers.
The CMRL Mobile App’s Store Value Pass recorded 66,959 passengers.
Event-based ticketing contributed 49,912 passengers during the month, including 31,444 through QR tickets issued for IPL matches and 18,468 linked to the Ilaiyaraaja live concert.
CMRL released the ridership figures through a post on its official X account on 1 June.
The metro operator currently offers a 20 per cent discount on travel booked through the NCMC Card and selected digital ticketing platforms.
