New Delhi, October 30, 2026: Container Corporation of India Limited (CONCOR) has placed an order worth ₹485.93 crore with Braithwaite & Co. Limited for the supply of 24 railway freight rakes designed to carry shipping containers. The procurement is expected to support CONCOR’s rail-based logistics operations, with June 20, 2028, specified as the date associated with the order.
In a regulatory filing submitted to the BSE and the National Stock Exchange on October 29, CONCOR confirmed that the order had been placed with Braithwaite & Co. Limited, a Government of India undertaking under the Ministry of Railways.
The contract covers 24 rakes of BLSS railway wagons with BVCM-type brake vans. The total order value of ₹485.93 crore includes Goods and Services Tax (GST).
A railway rake is a formation of multiple wagons operated together as part of a train. The order therefore covers 24 freight train formations rather than 24 individual wagons.
BLSS wagons are used to transport shipping containers by rail, while BVCM-type brake vans form part of the specified equipment configuration.
The filing does not disclose the number of individual wagons in each rake or provide separate prices for the wagons and brake vans.
CONCOR provides container transportation and logistics services, using railway networks and associated infrastructure to move freight between ports, inland terminals and other destinations.
The new rakes could help the company strengthen its container transportation operations once delivered and deployed. However, CONCOR has not specified whether the equipment will expand its existing fleet or replace older wagons.
According to the regulatory disclosure, June 20, 2028, is the date associated with the supply order. The company has not provided a rake-wise delivery schedule or confirmed when the first rake is expected to be supplied.
Braithwaite & Co., headquartered in Kolkata, is a public-sector company under the Ministry of Railways. The contract represents a domestic procurement arrangement between two government-owned companies.
In its disclosure, CONCOR confirmed that its promoters and promoter-group companies have no interest in the entity receiving the order. The company also stated that the transaction does not constitute a related-party transaction.
The ₹485.93 crore order represents a procurement commitment for railway freight equipment rather than completed expenditure or wagons already delivered.
The company has not disclosed the additional freight-carrying capacity expected from the order, the railway routes on which the rakes will operate or the date they will enter commercial service.
Once supplied and deployed, the 24 rakes could support CONCOR’s container freight operations across India’s railway network. Their contribution to freight capacity will depend on the number of wagons delivered, their carrying capacity and how the company deploys them.
