Gadkari reviews quality and maintenance of 3,748 Km National Highway projects in West Bengal

Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari on Monday, 1 June, reviewed the quality and maintenance progress of 3,748 Km of National Highway projects in West Bengal at a meeting in New Delhi.

The review was held after inputs were received through media and social media regarding highway projects in the state.

The meeting was attended by Union Minister of State Harsh Malhotra, officials from the National Highways Authority of India, National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Limited, Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, and project contractors.

“Reviewed the Quality and Maintenance progress of 3,748 Km National Highway projects in West Bengal, following inputs received through media and social media, with Union MoS Shri Harsh Malhotra Ji, NHAI, NHIDCL, MoRTH officials, and contractors in New Delhi today,” Gadkari said in a post on X.

Gadkari stressed the need to accelerate on-ground works and strengthen quality monitoring across National Highway projects in West Bengal.

He also called for the use of modern construction practices to improve the life of highway assets, riding quality and seamless connectivity across key corridors.

“Stressed accelerating on-ground works, tightening quality monitoring, and leveraging modern construction practices to enhance asset life, improve riding quality, and ensure seamless connectivity across key corridors,” Gadkari said.

The minister instructed officials to undertake advance planning for the monsoon season.

The directions included drainage management, slope protection and quick-response mechanisms to reduce disruptions and ensure commuter safety during adverse weather conditions.

The review comes amid a series of state-wise assessments of National Highway projects by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways.
