Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has announced the approval of major water, sewage, and management projects worth over ₹1,000 crore, providing fresh momentum to the Mission Clean Yamuna in collaboration with the central government.
In a statement on X on Monday, 25 May, the Delhi Chief Minister emphasized the government’s commitment to fulfilling its promise of a clean and pristine Yamuna.
“We have promised the people of Delhi that we will make the Yamuna clean and pure. With this resolve, work is being done continuously at every level,” she posted.
Key Projects Approved:
- 12 Decentralized Sewage Treatment Plants (STPs) in Najafgarh: An investment of ₹860 crore will benefit over 7 lakh people. These plants aim to significantly reduce sewage pollution entering the river system and accelerate Yamuna cleanup efforts.
- Keshopur STP Phase I Upgrade: Capacity will increase from 12 MGD to 18 MGD at a cost of ₹122 crore, promising improved sewage treatment and stronger water management.

Additional focus is being placed on rainwater harvesting to promote groundwater recharge, modernize sewer infrastructure, and create a more efficient sewer system overall.
These projects form part of a broader push under Mission Clean Yamuna to tackle the long-standing pollution in the Najafgarh Drain, upgrade sewage treatment, and improve water supply systems across the capital.
Officials describe the effort as operating in “mission mode” to deliver tangible results for residents.
The announcement comes as the Delhi government positions river rejuvenation as a top priority, building on earlier commitments to address pollution that has plagued the Yamuna for decades.
