The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has activated a large-scale monsoon preparedness framework across metro corridors and infrastructure projects ahead of the approaching monsoon season.

In a statement on X on Tuesday, 19 May, MMRDA said the framework has been put in place to help ensure safer roads, smoother mobility and faster emergency response for citizens during heavy rainfall.

“In view of the approaching monsoons, MMRDA has activated a large-scale monsoon preparedness framework across metro corridors and infrastructure projects to help ensure safer roads, smoother mobility and faster emergency response for citizens during heavy rainfall,” the authority said.

The authority said contractors and project agencies have been directed to strengthen drainage systems, deploy emergency teams, improve site safety and maintain round-the-clock monitoring across project zones.

MMRDA said strict compliance with the monsoon preparedness standard operating procedure is expected.

Contractors failing to comply with the SOP will face contractual action, the authority said.

As part of its citizen support measures, MMRDA will operationalise a 24×7 Disaster Control Room from 25 May to 15 October 2026 for emergency coordination and complaint registration during the monsoon season.

Citizens can contact the control room through the toll-free number 1800228801 or mobile number 8657402090.

MMRDA said it has also mobilised dewatering systems, CCTV monitoring infrastructure and emergency-response mechanisms across project sites to reduce inconvenience and improve response during heavy rainfall events.
