Mumbai’s ambitious Goregaon-Mulund Link Road (GMLR) project is progressing steadily, with the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) awarding the major Phase IV construction contract worth approximately ₹1,662.27 crore.
In a regulatory filing on Thursday, 19 March, Hindustan Construction Company Limited (HCC) said that its joint venture has secured a significant infrastructure contract worth approximately ₹1,662.27 crore from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) for GMLR Phase IV.
According to the company’s statement, the contract has been awarded to the Aakshya-HCC Joint Venture, in which HCC holds a 49 per cent stake.
“The scope of work under the contract includes construction of a second-level flyover and free-left movements at grade in Phase I. The total length of the flyover is 1,330 metres, while the at-grade road length is 3,200 metres and the free-left at-grade length is 2,620 metres,” the company said.
“Phase II involves construction of a cloverleaf interchange and free-left bypasses at grade, with a total cloverleaf loop and interchange length of 2,400 metres and free-left bypasses at-grade extending to 3,600 metres,” the company added.

The scope also includes an obligatory cable-stayed span of 180 metres and ramps with a total length of 270 metres, the statement said.
The GMLR corridor, being developed by BMC, aims to significantly improve east-west connectivity across Mumbai by linking Goregaon in the western suburbs to Mulund in the eastern suburbs.
Meanwhile, progress on the broader GMLR project continues to advance, with Phase-I of the corridor expected to become operational by this year.
The 12.2 Km-long stretch will include key components such as underground tunnels, bridges and traffic interchanges designed to streamline cross-city travel.
The GMLR project, estimated to cost around ₹14,000 crore, is planned to be completed by 2028. However, a It will eventually be integrated with the Versova-Bhayander coastal road, which is expected to further enhance suburban connectivity and reduce travel time across Mumbai’s urban corridors.
