Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has said that the upcoming Noida International Airport at Jewar is likely to be opened on 28 March, with a formal invitation sent to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for its inauguration.
Speaking at an event in Lucknow, the Chief Minister stated that the state government has requested the Prime Minister to inaugurate the airport on the proposed date.
“For air connectivity, Uttar Pradesh currently has 16 domestic airports and 4 international airports. The fifth international airport-set to become the largest in the country-is coming up at Jewar. We have requested the Hon’ble Prime Minister to inaugurate it on 28 March and have formally invited him for the occasion,” CM Yogi said.
Highlighting the economic significance of the project, the Chief Minister emphasised that the airport would play a transformative role in Uttar Pradesh’s growth trajectory.

“Once the Jewar Airport becomes operational, it will significantly accelerate Uttar Pradesh’s economic growth. It is expected to generate income of around ₹1 lakh crore for the state government,” he added.
The Noida International Airport, being developed in Jewar in Gautam Buddh Nagar district, is one of India’s largest greenfield airport projects and is expected to emerge as a major aviation hub for the National Capital Region and western Uttar Pradesh.
The project recently achieved a key milestone after receiving its aerodrome licence from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), certifying that the airport meets regulatory requirements related to safety, infrastructure, and operational systems.
With this approval in place, commercial flight operations are expected to begin subject to final clearances and operational readiness.
In its first phase, the airport will operate with one runway and one passenger terminal, with the capacity to handle around 12 million passengers annually.
The airport is being developed in multiple phases, and once fully completed, it is projected to handle up to 70 million passengers per year, significantly expanding aviation capacity in northern India.
