Tata Electronics and ASML have signed a Memorandum of Understanding to advance India’s semiconductor manufacturing ecosystem, with the partnership focused on the establishment and ramp-up of Tata Electronics’ upcoming 300 mm semiconductor fab in Dholera, Gujarat.
The agreement was signed on Saturday, 16 May, by Tata Electronics and ASML, one of the world’s leading semiconductor equipment manufacturing companies.
The companies said the collaboration will support the deployment of ASML’s advanced lithography tools and solutions at the Dholera facility.
Lithography is a critical part of chip manufacturing, as it is used to print circuit patterns on semiconductor wafers.
Under the partnership, ASML will support Tata Electronics with a holistic suite of lithography tools and solutions aimed at enabling smooth operations at the Dholera fab.
Tata Electronics is developing India’s first commercial 300 mm semiconductor fab in Dholera.
The facility has a planned total investment of $11 billion and is expected to manufacture semiconductors for automotive, mobile devices, artificial intelligence and other key segments for global customers.
The companies said the MoU also comes in the context of expanding strategic collaboration between India and the Netherlands in critical technologies, including semiconductor technology.
ASML is headquartered in Veldhoven, the Netherlands, and is a key global supplier of semiconductor manufacturing equipment.
The partnership will also focus on developing domestic semiconductor talent, lithography-intensive skills, supply chain resilience and research infrastructure.
Tata Electronics and ASML said these initiatives will support the long-term success of the Dholera fab and strengthen India’s semiconductor ecosystem.

Randhir Thakur, CEO and MD of Tata Electronics, said the partnership with ASML would support the timely ramp-up of the Dholera fab and help build a trusted supply chain for global customers.
“ASML’s deep expertise in holistic lithography solutions will ensure the timely ramp of our Fab in Dholera, create a resilient and trusted supply chain for our global customers, drive innovation, and develop talent locally,” Thakur said.
Christophe Fouquet, President and CEO of ASML, said India’s expanding semiconductor sector offers several opportunities and that ASML is committed to building long-term partnerships in the region.
“We believe Tata Electronics is strongly positioned to realize its ambitions in expanding semiconductor capabilities. We are pleased and honored to contribute our technological expertise and to help nurture talent in India,” Fouquet said.
Tata Electronics has already partnered with key global customers and semiconductor ecosystem companies, including Taiwan-based Powerchip Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation.
Through this partnership, Tata Electronics has gained access to a technology portfolio covering 28 nm, 40 nm, 55 nm, 90 nm and 110 nm semiconductor technologies.
Construction work on the Dholera plant is progressing rapidly, according to the company.
Tata Electronics said the ASML partnership is part of its wider effort to build collaborations across the semiconductor ecosystem, including equipment, process technology, design technology and materials.
The company also said skilled domestic talent will be critical to India’s semiconductor ambitions.
Tata Electronics has partnered with several international and Indian companies and institutions to train young people in semiconductor-related knowledge and skills.
Tata Electronics, established in 2020 as a greenfield venture of the Tata Group, operates across electronics manufacturing services, semiconductor assembly and test, semiconductor foundry and design services.
The company has operations in Gujarat, Assam, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka, along with overseas offices in the US, Taiwan and Singapore.
ASML supplies hardware, software and services used by chipmakers to mass-produce integrated circuits.
The company has more than 44,000 employees and is listed on Euronext Amsterdam and Nasdaq under the symbol ASML.
