Of the total positions, 541 have been identified under the Winter Internship Programme and 542 under the Term Internship Programme. Selected students will receive a stipend of ₹20,000 per month in accordance with the NHAI Internship Policy, along with a certificate after successful completion.
The one-month Winter Internship Programme will be conducted from December 2026 to January 2027, while the six-month Term Internship Programme will run from January to June 2027.
NHAI said students will have the flexibility to indicate their preferred internship duration within the prescribed period while applying, taking into account variations in academic calendars across different institutions.
Selected candidates will be deployed across ongoing National Highway projects as well as various NHAI and IHMCL divisions, where they will work under the supervision of NHAI officials.
Interns will get practical exposure to highway planning, construction, operation, maintenance, asset management and road safety. Opportunities will also be available in areas such as legal, finance, media and other functions related to the National Highway sector.
Final-year and pre-final-year undergraduate and postgraduate students pursuing full-time courses from recognised universities and institutions in India or abroad can apply, subject to the prescribed eligibility criteria.

Applications must be submitted through the dedicated NHAI Internship Portal by October 20, 2026. Students will be required to provide their academic details and can indicate their preferred internship duration and project locations wherever applicable.
Universities and institutions will have to verify and recommend eligible applications through the portal. Only institute-approved applications will be considered by NHAI for selection, with institutions required to complete their recommendations by November 10, 2026.
Final allocation of interns to projects will be undertaken by NHAI on the basis of merit, candidate preferences and availability. The portal will handle online applications, institute verification, selection and internship lifecycle management.
