New Delhi: The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has expanded its online FASTag Local Pass facility to 121 toll plazas across the country, allowing eligible residents living near these plazas to obtain a monthly pass without visiting the toll plaza physically.
According to the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, the facility enables eligible highway users to apply for and purchase a monthly Local Pass through the Rajmargyatra mobile application.
The Local Pass is available to eligible residents living within a 20 km radius of the concerned toll plaza. Once approved, the pass allows travel through the respective toll plaza during the month as per applicable provisions.
Earlier, applicants were required to visit the toll plaza and submit documents to establish their residential address and eligibility. The digital process removes the need for physical document submission and manual verification at the toll plaza.
The system uses consent-based integration with government platforms such as DigiLocker and VAHAN to retrieve and verify information including the applicant’s residential address, vehicle details and linked FASTag.
NHAI has also introduced Geographic Information System (GIS)-based verification to determine whether an applicant’s registered address falls within the prescribed 20 km radius of the toll plaza.
The digital Local Pass facility was first introduced in July 2026 at the Mundka-Bakkarwala Toll Plaza on Delhi’s Urban Extension Road-II (UER-II). Following the initial rollout, NHAI said on August 18 that the facility had been extended to 121 toll plazas across the country.
Highway users can check the toll plazas covered under the facility through the Rajmargyatra platform. NHAI plans to extend the digital Local Pass system to more toll plazas in the coming months as part of its efforts to make toll-related services more digital and convenient for users.
