The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has awarded a contract for the construction of flyovers and underpasses at the Jaipur Bypass Junction on the Delhi-Jaipur-Ajmer Expressway (NH-48) in Rajasthan.

According to a statement by the Ministry of Road Transport and Highway on Friday, 28 March, the project has been awarded to Maruti Infracreation Pvt. Ltd. at a cost of ₹130.65 crore under the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) mode.

The junction, currently spanning 200 feet, is a critical high-traffic intersection in Jaipur city, facilitating movement between Delhi, Ajmer, and major urban areas such as Mansarovar, Shyam Nagar and Vaishali Nagar.

However, heavy traffic volumes and dense surrounding residential zones have led to congestion due to the mixing of highway and local traffic.

To address these issues, the project includes the construction of two underpasses and two flyovers.

The underpasses will cater to traffic moving from Delhi to Mansarovar and from Mansarovar towards Delhi.

The flyovers will enable seamless movement between Jaipur and Ajmer, and between Ajmer and Delhi.

At present, vehicles at the junction are required to pass through signalised intersections, resulting in delays, higher fuel consumption and reduced travel efficiency.

The planned grade-separated structures aim to segregate local and through traffic, thereby improving traffic flow and reducing waiting time.

“Upon completion, the project will enhance overall traffic efficiency, improve road safety and lead to substantial savings in travel time and fuel for commuters,” the ministry said.

The ministry added that the project marks an important step towards strengthening urban mobility and easing congestion at the busy National Highway intersection, contributing to improved connectivity along NH-48 corridor in Rajasthan.
