The Ministry of Defence has signed a ₹1,476 crore contract with Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL), Hyderabad, for the procurement of five Ground-Based Mobile Electronic Systems for the Indian Army, with a minimum 72 per cent indigenous content.
The contract, executed under the Buy (Indian-Indigenously Designed, Developed and Manufactured) category, was signed in the presence of Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh at Kartavya Bhawan-2 in New Delhi on May 5, 2026. The systems are intended to enhance battlefield surveillance and electronic capabilities of Indian Army units while strengthening the domestic defence manufacturing ecosystem.
This comes about two weeks after the Ministry of Defence signed contracts worth around ₹975 crore with Bharat Earth Movers Limited (BEML) and Electro Pneumatics and Hydraulics (India) Private Limited for the procurement of TRAWL Assembly systems for T-72 and T-90 tanks.
The contracts, signed on April 21 in New Delhi, are aimed at enhancing the Indian Army’s minefield breaching capability. The TRAWL systems, developed by DRDO, are designed to create vehicle-safe lanes through minefields equipped with anti-tank mines with proximity magnetic fuses, enabling armoured mobility during operations and improving overall battlefield effectiveness.
The procurement is expected to enhance operational capability while strengthening indigenous defence manufacturing, including MSME participation in component production and supply chains.
