Indian Railways will launch a new and upgraded IRCTC ticketing website by July 15, Union Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw announced after students raised concerns over problems faced during online train ticket booking.

The announcement was made during Vaishnaw’s interaction with students at Malaviya National Institute of Technology, Jaipur, on Thursday, 11 June.

A student flagged the captcha verification issue on the IRCTC platform and urged the minister to fix it.

Responding to the complaint, Vaishnaw immediately called a departmental official in front of the students and said that there was a demand for a new IRCTC website.

He then asked officials whether the new platform could be prepared within 30 days.

After the call, the minister told students that the new IRCTC website would be launched by July 15.

The announcement drew applause from students present at the event.

The IRCTC website is used by millions of passengers for booking railway tickets, checking train availability and making online payments.

However, passengers have often complained about slow response during peak booking hours, repeated captcha verification, OTP delays, payment issues and difficulties during Tatkal ticket booking.

The proposed upgrade is expected to focus on faster ticket booking, better handling of high traffic, improved reliability and a smoother user experience for passengers.

The announcement has come at a time when digital ticket booking has become the main mode of railway reservation for a large section of passengers across the country.
