Ahmedabad Division of Western Railway has dispatched its first cargo rake carrying dairy products to Jammu and Kashmir, marking a new development in freight movement between the two regions.

According to the Ministry of Railways, the consignment was loaded for Amul at LCH station and comprised 20 BCN wagons, which are fully enclosed freight wagons typically used for transporting packaged commodities such as food products. Of these, 10 wagons were sent to Bari Brahmana and the remaining 10 to Anantnag.

The movement generated freight revenue of ₹24.62 lakh, reflecting the growing role of railways in supporting the transport of perishable and essential commodities over long distances.

The ministry stated that this initiative is expected to strengthen the supply chain of dairy products to remote regions, ensuring more reliable and efficient delivery.

Earlier, in October 2025, the Ahmedabad Division had transported 1,350 tonnes of industrial salt from Kharaghoda to Anantnag, indicating a steady expansion of freight operations connecting Gujarat with Jammu and Kashmir.

This move adds to the growing flow of goods between Gujarat and Jammu and Kashmir, with railways steadily becoming a more reliable option for moving essential cargo across long distances.
