The Gurugram Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) has planned a series of traffic decongestion measures at 17 key intersections across sectors 1 to 57 in Gurugram, aimed at improving traffic flow and enhancing the overall commuting experience.
The identified locations have been finalised in consultation with the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM), with a focus on reducing congestion at busy junctions while also supporting efforts to curb vehicular pollution in the city, according to a statement by the GMDA on 10 April.
Under the proposed plan, GMDA will undertake measures such as improvement and extension of slip lanes, streamlining free left-turn movements, creation of dedicated U-turns, and adjustment of median lengths to make better use of available road space along these junctions.
These measures are aimed at ensuring smoother traffic flow, reducing waiting time at intersections and minimizing long queues of vehicles.
By reducing stoppage time and improving traffic circulation, the project will also contribute to lowering emissions at these high-traffic points and thereby curbing air pollution at these busy intersections, the GMDA stated.
The 17 identified intersections include Sector 48/49/South City-II, Sector 40/45 Cyber Park, Sector 4/5 Chowk, Rezangla Chowk, Modern Bazar near Mayfield Garden, Opposite Tau Devi Lal Park (Sector 22), Sector Road 72A & Sector 33, Arcadia Mall Red Light, Sector 9 Chowk, Sector 4/7 Chowk, Daultabad Flyover, Millennium City Metro Station, Sector 41/45 Red Light, Bakhtawar Chowk, Unitech Cyber Park, Ghata Power House and Kaushal Chowk.
“With these proposed measures, GMDA seeks to improve traffic conditions, reduce congestion and contribute to improved air quality across the city,” said Executive Engineer, Amit Godara, according to the statement.
