Modern Coach Factory (MCF), Raebareli has rolled out its first Vande Bharat trainset and dispatched it for dynamic testing and field trials, marking a significant development in India’s railway manufacturing ecosystem.

The rollout comes as the Vande Bharat programme, which began in 2018 with just two trainsets, moves towards the milestone of its 100th trainset, reflecting the scale-up of indigenous semi-high-speed train production.

On Saturday, 2 May 2026, MCF formally entered the Vande Bharat manufacturing network with the rollout of its first 16-car Vande Bharat Chair Car rake. The trainset is equipped with a Siemens propulsion system and represents the expansion of advanced train manufacturing beyond existing production units.

Before entering passenger service, the train will undergo oscillation trials to assess ride quality, safety parameters, and dynamic performance under operational conditions.

The MCF-built trainset retains the core features associated with Vande Bharat trains, including higher acceleration, energy efficiency, and improved passenger comfort. It includes seating designed for comfort, jerk-free travel, fully sealed gangways, and automatic plug doors aimed at reducing noise levels inside coaches.

The train is equipped with the indigenous Kavach Automatic Train Protection system, along with advanced fire detection systems using aerosol-based suppression technology. It also includes flood protection measures for underslung equipment.

In terms of manufacturing and design, vacuum infusion technology has been used to achieve improved interior finish quality. The train is also designed to be Divyangjan-friendly, with ramps, dedicated spaces, and accessibility-focused facilities.

The rollout of this trainset from MCF Raebareli adds to the growing Vande Bharat fleet and reflects ongoing efforts by Indian Railways to expand modern rolling stock production with a focus on safety, reliability, and passenger experience.
