The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation will launch a hydrogen-powered shuttle bus service in Delhi’s Central Vista area from Friday, 15 May 2026, to improve last-mile connectivity between metro stations and key government offices.

According to a statement by DMRC on Thursday, 14 May, the service is being launched in collaboration with the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs and the Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas as part of a clean and sustainable urban mobility initiative.

The shuttle service will connect Central Secretariat and Seva Teerth (Prime Minister’s Office) Metro stations with major government offices and landmarks in the Central Vista area.

The initiative is aimed at encouraging greater use of public transport among government officials and the general public while reducing dependence on private vehicles.

Under the initiative, Indian Oil Corporation Limited will provide two hydrogen-fuelled buses to DMRC.

Each bus will have a seating capacity of 35 passengers and will be equipped with GPS-based tracking and CCTV systems for real-time monitoring, safety, punctuality and route adherence.

The service will operate on working days from Monday to Friday, excluding gazetted holidays.

The buses will run during peak office hours, with services in the morning from 8:30 AM to 12:30 PM and in the afternoon from 3:30 PM to 6:30 PM.

DMRC said the shuttle service will have a frequency of one bus every 30 minutes.

One bus will operate in the clockwise direction and the other in the anti-clockwise direction.

The route will cover important government offices and landmarks, including Kartavya Bhawan, Vigyan Bhawan, Nirman Bhawan, Akbar Road, Baroda House, National Stadium, National Gallery of Modern Art, India Gate and Seva Teerth Metro Station.

Fare collection will be available through National Common Mobility Card, UPI and cash payment options. The service will have stage-wise ticket pricing of ₹10 and ₹15.

DMRC will oversee bus operations, conductors, ticketing and passenger support.

IOCL will provide drivers and hydrogen fuel support for the shuttle service.

The launch marks one of the notable clean-mobility initiatives in Delhi’s government district, where large numbers of office-goers travel during peak hours.

By linking metro stations with offices and landmarks through a scheduled shuttle, the service is expected to make short-distance movement in the Central Vista area more convenient.

The hydrogen-powered buses are also intended to demonstrate the use of clean fuel in public transport operations.

DMRC said the project reflects the government’s focus on green mobility, clean energy adoption and sustainable public transport infrastructure.

The initiative is expected to serve as a benchmark for future hydrogen-based transport systems in the country.
