Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari on Tuesday, 19 May, inspected the DND-Faridabad-Sohna access-controlled highway project, a major NCR connectivity corridor being developed to improve movement between Delhi, Faridabad, Gurugram, Noida and Sohna, while also linking the region with Noida International Airport at Jewar and the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway.
In a statement, the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways said the project is being developed under Bharatmala Pariyojana and has a total length of around 59.063 Km.
The six-lane access-controlled highway is estimated to cost ₹4,463 crore.
The inspection was carried out in the presence of Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta, Union Ministers of State Ajay Tamta, Harsh Malhotra and Krishan Pal Gurjar, Delhi PWD Minister Parvesh Sahib Singh Verma, Haryana PWD Minister Ranbir Singh Gangwa, South Delhi MP Ramvir Singh Bidhuri and former MP Ramesh Bidhuri.
According to the ministry, the corridor will connect Delhi, Noida, Ghaziabad, Faridabad, Gurugram and Sohna through a high-speed access-controlled highway.
Once completed, it is expected to reduce travel time, improve traffic movement and strengthen transport infrastructure across the National Capital Region.
A key engineering feature of the project is a 140-metre Network Arch Bridge, described by the ministry as among the most advanced steel bridge structures in India.
The bridge has been designed using tied-arch technology with a crossed hanger arrangement to improve structural strength, durability and seismic resilience.
The project is also using modern construction techniques such as removable temporary steel pile supports over irrigation canals, precast segmental construction technology, launching girders, high-strength E450 steel, Grade 10.9 bolts, high-damping rubber bearings and swivel expansion joints.
The ministry said the project also uses sustainable construction practices.
Around 2 lakh metric tonnes of inert material generated from bio-mining of the Okhla and Ghazipur landfills has been used in road construction, reducing dependence on natural borrow materials.
Noise barriers, landscaping and plantation works are also part of the project.

Alongside the main corridor, a dedicated connectivity project is being developed to link Noida International Airport at Jewar with the DND-Faridabad Bypass in Haryana and the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway.
This separate 31.425 Km expressway project is being constructed at an estimated cost of ₹2,360 crore.
It will run from Chandawali village in Faridabad to near Dayanapur in Gautam Buddha Nagar, with a six-lane divided carriageway using flexible pavement.
The airport connectivity corridor will also link the Yamuna Expressway and the Eastern Peripheral Expressway.
The ministry said traffic from northern India will be able to reach Noida International Airport through the Eastern Peripheral Expressway, reducing pressure on Delhi.
Traffic from South Delhi, Faridabad and Gurugram is also expected to get a more direct route to the airport.
The project includes four major interchanges at the DND-Sohna Highway, Eastern Peripheral Expressway, Yamuna Expressway and the DFCC crossing, along with a Rail Over Bridge.
A proposed elevated corridor and an 8-lane Rail Over Bridge at the DFCCIL crossing are planned to provide faster connectivity from South Delhi, Faridabad and Gurugram to Noida International Airport.
The ministry said the corridor forms an important part of greenfield connectivity between the DND-Ballabhgarh Bypass and Noida International Airport, linking it with the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway.
It also passes through areas identified under the Faridabad Master Plan 2031 for high-density urban development and future infrastructure expansion.
The project is expected to support economic activity, improve logistics movement and ease traffic pressure across key parts of NCR as Noida International Airport moves closer to becoming a major aviation hub for the region.
