NEW DELHI, September 21: Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah will inaugurate the third National Conference of Heads of Anti-Narcotics Task Forces (ANTFs) of States and Union Territories in New Delhi on September 22, the Ministry of Home Affairs said.
The two-day conference, being organised by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), will be held under the theme “United Resolve, Shared Responsibility.”
During the event, Shah will lay the foundation stones for new NCB zonal complexes in Lucknow and Dehradun.
He will also release television commercials aimed at spreading awareness against drugs, launch the revamped NCB website and felicitate the best-performing ANTF among the States and Union Territories.
The conference will bring together ANTF heads from 36 States and Union Territories, along with representatives of concerned government departments and other stakeholders.
Discussions will focus on progress towards targets assigned to State and UT ANTFs under the Vision Document on Narcotics Control 2026-2029 and initiatives undertaken by stakeholders to combat drug trafficking and substance abuse.
The conference will also review strategies related to supply reduction, demand reduction and harm reduction.
The deliberations will be structured around four strategic pillars of the Vision Document – Enforcement, Intelligence and Operations; Precursors and Synthetic Drugs Control; Demand and Harm Reduction; and Capacity Building and Coordination.
Eight technical sessions will be held during the conference, covering institutional mechanisms under the Vision Document, dismantling drug network linkages and cartels, demand reduction, prevention and rehabilitation, improving enforcement effectiveness, precursors, synthetic drugs and clan labs, destruction of illicit cultivation and alternate cropping, and darknet and cryptocurrency investigations.
The Ministry said the conference is aimed at strengthening coordination between the NCB, States, Union Territories and other stakeholders and developing actionable strategies to combat drug trafficking over the next three years.
