Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) recorded a total ridership of 96,40,993 passengers between 1 February 2026 and 28 February 2026, according to an official statement released by the metro operator.
In a statement, CMRL stated that 20 February 2026 recorded the highest passenger traffic in February, with 3,99,503 passengers travelling on that single day.
The metro operator noted that it has always endeavored to provide safe, efficient, and reliable transport services for Chennai’s commuters.
According to the CMRL, the National Common Mobility Card (NCMC) Singara Chennai Card remained the most widely used ticketing mode, accounting for 49,11,328 passenger journeys in February.
Single journey paper QR tickets and tokens recorded 19,10,265 passengers, while static QR tickets issued at stations accounted for 2,11,188 passengers.
The CMRL Travel Card recorded 38,121 passenger journeys during the same period.
Digital QR ticketing platforms together contributed a substantial share of ridership.
ONDC-based ticketing recorded 11,47,636 passengers, followed by WhatsApp ticketing with 4,51,491 passengers, Paytm with 3,27,534 passengers, and PhonePe with 2,70,088 passengers.
Online QR ticketing accounted for 1,26,618 passengers, while the Chennai One App recorded 1,59,134 passengers and the CMRL Mobile App recorded 64,649 passengers.
Special event QR tickets issued for events such as A R Rahman’s Wonderment Tour and the India vs Zimbabwe T20 World Cup recorded 22,941 passenger journeys.
CMRL stated that it offers a 20 per cent fare discount on digital ticketing services, including NCMC cards and QR tickets purchased through WhatsApp, Paytm, PhonePe, ONDC, and the official CMRL mobile application.
Single journey paper QR tickets purchased at station ticket counters are excluded from this discount.
CMRL expressed its appreciation to passengers for their continued support and cooperation and reiterated its efforts to expand digital ticketing and enhance commuter convenience across the metro network.
