Chennai Metro Phase 2 reaches key milestone with CMRS safety review of Poonamallee Bypass-Vadapalani stretch as the Commissioner of Metro Railways Safety (CMRS) on Wednesday, 11 February, commenced a statutory safety inspection on a priority stretch of Corridor 4 under Phase 2 of the Chennai Metro Rail project, marking a key project milestone.
The inspection is being led by CMRS Anant Madhukar Chowdhary of the Bangalore Circle, who, along with his team, is examining the elevated section between Poonamallee Bypass Metro Station and Vadapalani Metro Station.
The two-day inspection is scheduled for February 11 and 12 and covers a total distance of 14.64 kilometres.
On the first day, officials inspected a 6.134-kilometre stretch between Poonamallee Bypass and Iyyapanthangal Metro stations.
The review focused on critical infrastructure, including electrical systems, track components, and civil structures, to ensure compliance with safety standards before passenger operations can begin.
The Corridor 4 stretch under inspection comprises 11 stations: Poonamallee Bypass, Poonamallee, Mullaithottam, Karayanchavadi, Kumananchavadi, Kattupakkam, Iyyapanthangal, Thelliayaragaram, Porur Bypass, Porur Junction, and Vadapalani.
Chowdhary was accompanied by three Deputy Commissioners of Metro Railways Safety, along with senior Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) officials including Director (Projects) T Archunan and Director (Systems & Operations) Manoj Goyal.
The inspection forms part of the mandatory safety certification process required before the corridor can be opened for passenger service.
