The Centre has approved ₹221.52 crore for the 6-laning of the Dwarka Circle-Upnagar Naka-Datta Mandir Chowk stretch of National Highway-60 in Nashik, Maharashtra, Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari said on Tuesday, 26 May.

The project also includes the construction of 2-lane service roads on both sides of the stretch, which forms part of a key urban road corridor in Nashik.

Gadkari said the project is aimed at reducing travel time, ensuring smoother traffic movement, improving road safety and supporting Nashik’s Smart City objectives.

The approval comes in the backdrop of preparations for the 2027 Kumbh Mela, when Nashik is expected to see a major rise in vehicular and pilgrim movement.

The Dwarka Circle-Upnagar Naka-Datta Mandir Chowk corridor is a busy stretch in Nashik and serves local as well as through traffic.

The addition of service roads on both sides is expected to separate local movement from highway traffic, helping reduce congestion and improve safety for commuters.

According to the minister’s statement, the main objectives of the project are to reduce travel time, provide smooth traffic flow, strengthen road safety, support Smart City goals and make connectivity more efficient ahead of the 2027 Kumbh Mela.

The project adds to the ongoing infrastructure planning in Nashik as the city prepares for higher traffic pressure during the upcoming religious gathering.
