The Union Cabinet has approved a 3.33 Km extension of the Ahmedabad Metro’s North-South corridor from GIFT City to Shahpur, adding three elevated stations to expand connectivity in Gujarat’s rapidly developing financial and urban region.

The project will be developed at an estimated cost of ₹1,067.35 crore and is scheduled for completion in approximately four years.

Once operational, the extended corridor is projected to serve around 23,702 daily passengers by 2029, with ridership expected to increase to 58,059 passengers by 2041 as economic and urban activity intensifies along the route.

The extension is aimed at strengthening metro connectivity between Ahmedabad and Gujarat International Finance Tec-City GIFT City, improving access to major multinational companies, educational institutions, and commercial centres located along the alignment.

The new link is expected to provide faster and more reliable transit for commuters travelling for employment, business, and education, while improving integration with the wider metro network.

The project is also expected to generate approximately 1,000 jobs during the construction phase and around 250 jobs in operations and maintenance after completion, along with additional indirect employment through associated activities.

Gujarat Metro Rail Corporation Limited GMRC, a 50:50 joint venture between the Government of India and the Government of Gujarat, will implement the project as part of ongoing metro expansion efforts in the state.

Currently, the Gujarat Metro’s 68.28-km Ahmedabad Metro Phase-I {APMC to Motera Stadium North-South Corridor and Thaltej Gam to Vastral Gam East-West Corridor} and Phase-II Motera Stadium to Mahatma Mandir and GNLU to GIFT City, with total 53 stations have been successfully made operational since Sep-2022 Phase-I and January-2026 Phase-II.

The daily ridership on this line is approximately 1,60,000.
