Wardha, November 2, 2026: Farmers and exporters in Maharashtra’s Vidarbha region could save up to ₹50,000 per container on certain Bangladesh-bound shipments under a proposed transport arrangement linked to the 150-acre Multi-Modal Logistics Park at Sindi Railway in Wardha district.

Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari performed the bhoomipujan ceremony for the project on November 1, outlining plans to improve export connectivity for cotton, textiles, oranges and other agricultural products from the region.

According to the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways, the proposed route would allow goods from Vidarbha to reach Bangladesh via Haldia, near Kolkata, instead of travelling through Mumbai.

The government estimates that this arrangement could reduce transportation costs from ₹1.5 lakh to ₹1 lakh per container, representing a potential saving of ₹50,000, or approximately 33%.

The estimated reduction applies to the proposed export arrangement and is not a guaranteed saving for every shipment. The ministry has not provided a detailed breakdown of the transportation costs or specified when the lower charges might become available.

The logistics park is being jointly developed by National Highways Logistics Management Limited (NHLML), a company under the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), and the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority (JNPA). The latest government announcement also identifies AMARA TRANZ Solution as being involved in the development.

An earlier ministry announcement, issued in April 2025, estimated the project’s total investment at ₹673 crore, including ₹137 crore for the first phase. The 150-acre development was planned in three phases under a public-private partnership model with a 45-year concession period.

The November 2026 announcement did not provide an updated investment estimate or a completion deadline.

The project is expected to support exports of cotton, cotton lint, yarn, textiles, oranges and vegetables from Vidarbha. Gadkari said it would also improve access to international markets through JNPA and reduce cargo transportation times along the Mumbai–Colombo–Dhaka route.

The proposed infrastructure includes warehouses, cold-storage facilities, exporter clusters and a customs office at Sindi Railway. These facilities are intended to help farmers, traders and manufacturers store, consolidate and transport goods to domestic and international markets.

However, the facility is not entirely new. An earlier government announcement confirmed that initial commercial operations began at Sindi in April 2025.

The logistics park received its first railway rake carrying 123 Maruti cars from Farukhnagar on April 28, 2025, marking the commencement of cargo-handling operations at the location.

The November 1, 2026, bhoomipujan therefore represents a further development milestone rather than the first operational launch of the facility. The ministry has not clarified whether the ceremony relates to a particular construction phase or additional infrastructure.

Gadkari said the project would also generate employment opportunities for local residents and strengthen economic activity in the Nagpur–Wardha region.

The proposed combination of rail connectivity, storage facilities and customs services could help Vidarbha’s agricultural producers and manufacturers access export markets more efficiently.

However, the projected ₹50,000 saving per container and wider economic benefits will depend on the completion of the planned infrastructure, availability of the proposed export routes and actual transportation costs once the services become operational.
