Mumbai: Larsen & Toubro (L&T) has formally executed two contracts with Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) for the development of the Latifa Bint Hamdan Corridor, a major road project expected to handle more than 130,000 trips per day upon completion.

The contracts have been executed by L&T’s Transportation Infrastructure business. The company has classified one contract as “large”, valued between ₹2,500 crore and ₹5,000 crore, and the other as “significant”, valued between ₹1,000 crore and ₹2,500 crore.

Based on these classification bands, the combined value of the two contracts falls within a broad range of ₹3,500 crore to ₹7,500 crore, although L&T has not disclosed the exact contract value.

Under the first contract, L&T will develop a new road connecting Al Khail Road with the extension of Latifa Bint Hamdan Street. The scope includes bridges, tunnels and associated road works.

The project will improve connectivity between Al Khail Road, Latifa Bint Hamdan Street and Al Meydan Street and provide access to development areas along the corridor.

The second contract covers the development of parts of Al Meydan Street, including a new interchange and associated at-grade roads to serve development projects in the area and improve traffic movement.

It also includes a cycling track connecting with Dubai’s existing cycling network and contributing to an integrated cycling route extending from Al Qudra to Jumeirah.

Both projects are scheduled for completion by the end of 2028.

The overall Latifa Bint Hamdan Corridor will extend approximately 12 km and connect major road corridors including Sheikh Zayed Road, Al Khail Road, Al Meydan Street, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Road, Sheikh Zayed bin Hamdan Al Nahyan Street and Emirates Road.

Once completed, the corridor is expected to accommodate around 16,000 vehicles per hour in both directions and more than 130,000 trips per day.

The development is also expected to reduce travel time between Umm Al Sheif Street and Emirates Road from 33 minutes to 15 minutes, cutting the journey by around 18 minutes.

The twin contracts expand L&T’s transportation infrastructure portfolio in Dubai, with the company’s scope covering road, bridge, tunnel, interchange and cycling infrastructure works as part of the wider corridor development.
