NEW DELHI, September 26: Guntur is set to get a new four-lane Road Over Bridge between Guntur and Nambur railway stations, with the ₹108 crore project aimed at removing a busy level crossing and improving traffic movement near the city’s Inner Ring Road.
The 668-metre bridge will replace Level Crossing Gate No. 3 on the Guntur-Krishna Canal section of the Guntur-Nambur railway line. The entire cost of the project will be borne by the Ministry of Railways.
Located near Guntur’s Inner Ring Road, the bridge will directly connect Bus Stand Road with Gorantla Village. Around 2.9 acres of land will be required for the project, while construction is expected to begin shortly.
The project is expected to eliminate traffic stoppages at the level crossing, improve vehicle movement through the area and reduce fuel wastage caused by waiting traffic. The Railways also expects the bridge to improve urban safety and train punctuality.
The foundation stone for the project was laid on September 26 by Union Minister of State for Railways and Jal Shakti V. Somanna, along with Union Minister of State for Rural Development and Communications Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar.
The Railways said the project forms part of a wider push to eliminate level crossings through Road Over Bridges and Road Under Bridges in Andhra Pradesh. It also said 74 railway stations in the state are being upgraded with an investment of around ₹3,500 crore.
