New Delhi: The Indian Army is set to strengthen the capabilities of its artillery regiments with new loiter munition systems, with the Ministry of Defence signing contracts worth around ₹1,577 crore with two Indian defence companies.
The Ministry of Defence has signed contracts with Tata Advanced Systems Limited and NIBE Private Limited for the procurement of Loiter Munition Systems, along with associated munitions and other accessories, for the Indian Army. The contracts have an approximate combined value of ₹1,577 crore.
The agreements were signed in New Delhi on August 14, 2026, in the presence of Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh.
According to the ministry, the Loiter Munition System is considered critical equipment for enhancing the capabilities of the Army’s artillery regiments and improving their overall operational effectiveness.
The systems are being procured under the Buy (Indian) category through the Fast Track Procedure. The ministry said the acquisition will also bolster the manufacturing capabilities of Indian industry.
The procurement forms part of the Army’s efforts to strengthen its operational capabilities through the induction of loiter munition systems while supporting domestic defence manufacturing.
The official release did not provide a company-wise breakup of the ₹1,577 crore contract value, the number of loiter munition systems being procured, their technical specifications or a delivery schedule.
