New Delhi: India has added another 405 strategically important defence items to its indigenisation programme, widening opportunities for domestic manufacturers across aircraft, armoured platforms, warships, missiles, ammunition and defence electronics.

The Department of Defence Production (DDP), under the Ministry of Defence, on August 18 notified the sixth Positive Indigenisation List (PIL), covering items with an estimated business potential of ₹3,070 crore.

The list includes Line Replaceable Units, sub-systems, sub-assemblies, spares, components and raw materials. Of the 405 items, 389 are linked to Defence Public Sector Undertakings (DPSUs), while 16 are associated with the Indian Coast Guard.

The items are connected with several major defence platforms and systems. These include the Advanced Light Helicopter, Light Utility Helicopter, Su-30MKI, Light Combat Aircraft and AL-31FP engine.

The list also covers items related to T-72, T-90 and BMP-II armoured platforms, warships and missile systems including Konkurs-M, Invar and MRSAM.

Defence electronics such as radars, sonars, fire-control systems and satellite communication systems are also included, along with High Explosive Anti-Tank ammunition and other critical defence equipment.

Each item on the sixth PIL has been assigned an indicative timeline for indigenisation. Once successfully developed domestically, the listed items will be procured from Indian industry.

DPSUs and the Indian Coast Guard will pursue indigenisation through routes including the Make procedure and in-house development, with participation from domestic industry, particularly Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises.

The latest list follows five earlier Positive Indigenisation Lists covering 5,012 items. The government expects the initiative to expand business opportunities for Indian manufacturers, strengthen the domestic defence manufacturing ecosystem and reduce dependence on imports.

The SRIJAN Defence Portal, launched by the Department of Defence Production in August 2020, has facilitated the offering of more than 33,000 defence items for indigenous development by DPSUs and Service Headquarters up to June 2026.

More than 15,700 of these items have already been successfully indigenised, resulting in an estimated import substitution value of around ₹9,000 crore over the last five years.

DPSUs have also placed procurement orders, including in-house production, worth approximately ₹10,000 crore on domestic vendors up to March 2026.
