Ahmedabad Metro to get 6.032-km airport corridor as Union Cabinet approves ₹2,169 crore Phase 2A expansion

The Union Cabinet has approved Phase 2A of the Ahmedabad Metro Rail Project, covering a 6.032-km corridor from Koteshwar Road to the airport.

The project will have five stations, including four elevated stations and one underground station. These include Ashram Road, Koteshwar Prachin Mandir, Sabarmati River, Sardar Nagar and Airport.

The total completion cost of the project, including interest during construction, has been estimated at ₹2,169.04 crore.

Once operational, Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar will have 77.63 km of active metro rail network.

The new corridor is expected to improve airport connectivity and link key residential and commercial areas with the existing Ahmedabad-Gandhinagar metro network.

The project is also expected to reduce traffic congestion, improve travel time, support local businesses and provide better access to public transport.

According to the government, the project will generate employment for around 2,000 people during peak construction and about 500 people during operation and maintenance.
