Tamil Nadu gets ₹18,600 crore L&T investment push for data centre, electronics and shipbuilding

The Tamil Nadu government on 4 June signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Larsen & Toubro for 3 major projects involving a total investment of ₹18,600 crore, with employment expected for 8,200 people.

The MoU was signed at the Secretariat in Chennai in the presence of Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay and L&T Chairman and Managing Director S.N. Subrahmanyan.

The largest project under the agreement is a data centre expansion project in Kancheepuram district. It will involve an investment of ₹15,000 crore and is expected to create employment for 500 people.

The second project will be set up in Coimbatore with an investment of ₹2,500 crore. It will focus on electronics and electronic systems manufacturing and is expected to provide employment to 2,000 people.

The third project will expand the L&T shipbuilding facility at Kattupalli in Tiruvallur district. The project will involve an investment of ₹1,100 crore and is expected to generate employment for 5,700 people.

The state government said the projects will support Tamil Nadu’s industrial growth, digital infrastructure, electronics manufacturing and maritime sector development.

The move comes as Tamil Nadu aims to grow into a $1.5 trillion economy by 2036. Major investments in digital infrastructure, advanced manufacturing and shipbuilding are expected to play an important role in this goal.
