India’s retail inflation, measured by the Consumer Price Index, stood at 4.38 per cent in June 2026 on a year-on-year basis, according to provisional data released by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation.
According to the ministry, rural inflation stood at 4.74 per cent in June, while urban inflation was lower at 3.92 per cent.
Retail inflation had stood at 3.93 per cent in May 2026, based on final data. Rural inflation in May was 4.25 per cent, while urban inflation was 3.53 per cent.
Food inflation also rose in June. The Consumer Food Price Index showed year-on-year food inflation at 5.32 per cent, compared with 4.78 per cent in May.

Food inflation was 5.45 per cent in rural areas and 5.09 per cent in urban areas during June.
The all-India CPI index stood at 107.00 in June, compared with 105.91 in May. The rural CPI index was 107.24, while the urban index was 106.69.
Housing inflation stood at 2.10 per cent in June. The corresponding rural and urban housing inflation rates were 2.66 per cent and 1.90 per cent, respectively.
At the division level, food and beverages inflation stood at 5.05 per cent in June on a combined basis.
Transport inflation was 4.31 per cent, while clothing and footwear inflation stood at 3.23 per cent.
Restaurants and accommodation services recorded inflation of 6.91 per cent.
The highest division-wise inflation was seen in personal care, social protection and miscellaneous goods and services at 16.72 per cent.
Among individual items, silver jewellery recorded the highest inflation at 133.21 per cent in June.
Ginger inflation stood at 50.41 per cent, while gold, diamond and platinum jewellery inflation was 36.82 per cent.
Tomato inflation stood at 31.92 per cent, while raisin and monacca inflation was 20.52 per cent.
Several items showed negative inflation during the month.
Potato prices were down 20.34 per cent year-on-year in June. Peas recorded inflation of minus 9.67 per cent, while motor car and jeep inflation was minus 6.89 per cent.
Cumin inflation was minus 3.75 per cent, and motor cycle and scooter inflation was minus 3.49 per cent.
Among states with population above 50 lakh, Telangana recorded the highest combined inflation at 6.36 per cent in June.
It was followed by Andhra Pradesh and Puducherry at 5.39 per cent each, Tamil Nadu at 5.24 per cent, Odisha at 5.15 per cent and Madhya Pradesh at 5.09 per cent.
Uttarakhand recorded combined inflation of 4.13 per cent in June, with rural inflation at 4.60 per cent and urban inflation at 3.32 per cent.
Delhi’s combined inflation stood at 2.96 per cent, while Uttar Pradesh recorded 4.56 per cent, Rajasthan 4.70 per cent, Maharashtra 3.81 per cent and Gujarat 4.01 per cent.
The ministry said price data was collected from 1,407 urban markets, including online markets, and 1,465 villages across states and Union Territories.
