Digi Yatra has crossed 10 crore usage across 38 airports, marking a major milestone in India’s digital aviation push, the Ministry of Civil Aviation said in a statement on Saturday, 30 May.
The app has enabled over 10 crore seamless journeys and recorded more than 2.4 crore downloads across iOS and Android, making it one of the major digital public infrastructure platforms in India’s aviation sector.
The platform allows passengers to move through airport checkpoints using the Digi Yatra platform for paperless and contactless passenger processing, replacing manual document checks at participating airports.
According to the ministry, this has reduced average airport entry processing time from 15 seconds to 5 seconds per passenger.
The faster passenger movement has helped optimise terminal infrastructure, reduce congestion and bring down manual processing requirements at airports.
The ministry also said the initiative supports environmental sustainability by reducing the use of physical boarding passes and saving thousands of sheets of paper daily across participating airports.
Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu said the 10 crore usage milestone reflects growing passenger trust in “seamless, paperless and contactless travel.”
He said the adoption of Digi Yatra comes at a time when India’s domestic air traffic has expanded sharply.
Daily domestic passenger traffic, which averaged below 2 lakh passengers in 2014, has crossed the 5 lakh mark on several occasions over the last 3 years, the minister said.
The minister said annual passenger traffic across Indian airports is projected to reach 50 crore by 2030 and nearly 100 crore by 2040.
To manage this expected growth, the government is adopting several digital systems, including Digi Yatra, self-baggage drop facilities, augmentation of air traffic control automation systems, the AirSewa grievance redressal portal and AI-powered digital twins for airport operations.
Naidu said Digi Yatra is currently active at 38 airports and 27 more airports will be enabled by next year.
“I am also pleased to share that the major greenfield airport projects operationalizing this year; Navi Mumbai, Jewar and Bhogapuram will all be fully Digi Yatra-enabled,” he added.
The platform currently supports 11 languages.
The minister said 11 more regional languages are planned to be added by the end of this year to make the platform more inclusive and improve ease of flying for passengers.
The ministry said Digi Yatra follows a privacy-by-design approach.
Passenger data remains encrypted and stored on the user’s own device, and is shared only for a limited duration with the origin airport for immediate verification.
The ministry said it remains committed to making Indian airport travel more seamless and hassle-free, in line with the government’s Digital India and Aviation for All objectives.
