Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Friday, 29 May, released a commemorative volume on Operation Sindoor, documenting the personal testimonies of 100 officers, sailors, airmen and soldiers who took part in the operation.

The publication places the lived experience of soldiers at the centre of the Operation Sindoor narrative, moving beyond conventional official military histories that usually focus on headquarters, operations rooms and command-level decisions.

According to the Ministry of Defence, the book records accounts from personnel across the three Services, as well as Headquarters Integrated Defence Staff and joint and integrated organisations involved in the operation.

In a post on X, Singh described the publication as a tribute to those who executed Operation Sindoor and said it provides a connection with the devotion and resilience of soldiers.

“The citizens need to draw inspiration from this book and be citizens worthy of the tremendous cost the nation pays to ensure security and maintain sovereignty,” he said.

Singh described Operation Sindoor as an “unprecedented success” in which India compelled Pakistan to seek a ceasefire within four days.

He said the operation was different from all other wars India has fought so far, adding that the commemorative publication goes beyond a historical account and captures the personal experiences of soldiers who participated in it.

According to the ministry, the volume seeks to recover the “texture” of war as lived by personnel on the ground, at sea and in the air.

The accounts include those of soldiers on the Line of Control targeting adversary bunkers, air defence operators tracking and neutralising inbound drones, pilots in the cockpit at the moment of weapons release and sailors at action stations as the fleet moved to a heightened posture.

The publication also includes experiences of combat aviators, naval watchkeepers, surface-to-air missile crews, special forces operators, signallers, logisticians, medical officers and personnel from joint and integrated organisations.

The release ceremony in New Delhi was attended by Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan, Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi, Chief of the Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi and Chief of the Air Staff Air Chief Marshal AP Singh.

The volume was compiled under the guidance of the Chief of Defence Staff.

Personal accounts from the Services were contributed by the Additional Directorate General of Strategic Communication, Media and Public Information Cell and the Directorate of Media and Public Relations.

Publication support was provided by the United Service Institution of India.
