The Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train project has completed the launching of a 45-metre-long segmental bridge over the Kalupur Flyover in Amdavad district, clearing another key crossing on India’s first high-speed rail corridor.
The work was completed on 25 May over the Kalupur Flyover, a railway overbridge above the Sabarmati-Mumbai main line of Western Railway.
The viaduct runs parallel to the existing railway line and forms part of the 508-Km Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train corridor.
According to a statement by the National High Speed Rail Corporation Limited (NHSRCL), the implementing agency for the project, on Wednesday, 27 May, the bridge was launched using the Span-by-Span method.
The span over the flyover is 45 metres long and the viaduct height from ground level to rail level is 19.5 metres.
A total of 19 segments were launched for the span, which has a total weight of 1,200 metric tonnes.
Kalupur Flyover is one of Amdavad’s busiest two-lane flyovers and provides important connectivity between Shahibaug, Asarwa and Kalupur. It is used by thousands of commuters every day.
NHSRCL said the span erection work was planned and carried out under a controlled night block schedule to limit disruption to traffic.
Entry and exit points within the work zone were fully closed during night hours from 00:00 hrs to 06:00 hrs, while normal traffic movement beneath the flyover was restored during the daytime.
Night traffic block permission was obtained from the Ahmedabad Traffic Department for the period from 22 May to 25 May 2026.
During this limited block period, major activities including auto-launching, segment transportation, span erection, dry matching and gluing were completed in three nights.
Safety and traffic management measures were also put in place to reduce public inconvenience.
These included barricading, traffic diversion signages, advance public information on route diversions, deployment of traffic marshals during day and night shifts, and lighting arrangements for night-time operations.
The Mumbai-Ahmedabad Bullet Train corridor passes over 31 crossings in Ahmedabad district.
These include 8 Indian Railways crossings, road flyovers, roads, road underpasses, 16 canal crossings, 1 river bridge crossing over the Sabarmati River and 6 steel bridges.
Out of these 31 crossings, work on 23 crossings has already been completed, according to NHSRCL.
