The biannual Army Commanders’ Conference, which commenced on 13 April 2026, concluded in New Delhi on 16 April 2026, bringing together the apex leadership of the Indian Army to deliberate on key operational and strategic issues.
The conference was chaired by the Chief of the Army Staff and attended by senior military leadership, along with key government functionaries including the Cabinet Secretary, Chief of the Defence Staff, Defence Secretary, Chairman of the National Security Advisory Board and the Chief of the Naval Staff.
Aligned with the vision of transforming into a ‘Future Ready Force’, the Indian Army has designated 2026 as the year of “Networking and Data Centricity”, with discussions focusing on integrating advanced technologies into combat operations and enhancing operational preparedness.
The deliberations covered a wide range of issues pertaining to modernisation, technology infusion in combat operations, doctrinal and training requirements besides networking and data centricity to enhance operational readiness and address emerging security challenges.
Senior Army leadership also reviewed operational capability requirements in light of lessons learnt from Operation Sindoor and evolving global operational dynamics, with particular focus on the employment of Unmanned Aerial Systems (UAS) and Counter-Unmanned Aerial Systems (C-UAS).
During the conference, speakers highlighted the changing geopolitical environment and stressed the importance of strengthening hard power capabilities to safeguard India’s strategic interests.
The discussions underscored the need for enhanced inter-ministerial coordination, stronger civil-military synergy and a whole-of-nation approach to respond to complex security challenges.
