Indian navy holds first naval commanders’ conference 2026 in delhi, focus on future warfare and readiness

The first edition of the Naval Commanders’ Conference 2026 commenced at Nausena Bhawan in New Delhi on Tuesday, 14 April, bringing together senior naval leadership, operational commanders and key staff from Naval Headquarters to review operational priorities and future strategy.

Chief of the Naval Staff Admiral Dinesh K Tripathi, in his inaugural address, highlighted the Navy’s role in safeguarding India’s maritime interests, including ensuring energy security amid the ongoing conflict in West Asia and maintaining a high operational tempo.

He emphasised the need to sustain combat readiness and adapt emerging technologies to build a future-ready force, while continuing to strengthen inter-service synergy across the armed forces.

Admiral Tripathi reiterated the Indian Navy’s commitments in the Indian Ocean Region and beyond in the emerging geostrategic scenario, and the significance of Cohesive and Credible approach through proactive engagements with Friendly Foreign Countries (FFCs) in multilateral and bilateral exercises.

The conference is reviewing a wide range of operational and strategic issues, including jointness, capability enhancement across platforms, maintenance and refits, multi-domain safety practices, training, foreign cooperation, human resource matters, and innovation and indigenisation.

The Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan also addressed the commanders, focusing on the matters pertaining to changing geopolitical orders.

He urged the Navy to plan for rapidly evolving character of war, including economic and technological factors.
