The North Western Railway has initiated a mission to significantly enhance its train operations by strengthening maintenance infrastructure, with a focus on expanding pit line capacity across its network.

According to NWR Chief Public Relations Officer Amit Sudarshan, the zone is implementing a comprehensive plan to expand its train maintenance capabilities, which are critical for ensuring timely and efficient rail operations.

At present, North Western Railway operates 22 pit lines across various locations within its jurisdiction.

These pit lines are essential for primary maintenance, which directly impacts the readiness and punctual operation of trains.

As part of a mission-mode approach, the railway zone has commenced construction of 20 new pit lines across multiple locations.

The works are progressing at a fast pace and are being monitored at a high level to ensure timely completion.

The new pit lines are being developed at Madar (1 line), Umra (2 lines), Lalgarh (4 lines), Sri Ganganagar (2 lines), Hisar (2 lines), Suratgarh (2 lines), Khatipura (4 lines), Barmer (1 line), and Jaisalmer (2 lines).

With the addition of these facilities, the overall maintenance capacity is expected to nearly double.

This expansion is projected to translate into a corresponding increase in operational capacity, enabling the introduction of new train services across the network.

The railway zone stated that improved maintenance infrastructure will create opportunities to enhance connectivity and facilitate the launch of additional trains, benefiting passengers and supporting regional socio-economic development.

In addition to the ongoing works, North Western Railway is also planning the development of 10 more rail lines as part of its long-term infrastructure strategy. These projects are currently at various stages of planning and approval.

The expansion of maintenance infrastructure is expected to improve operational efficiency, accommodate growing rail traffic, and strengthen overall railway infrastructure in the region.
