While most sections of the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway are operational, delays in Gujarat section of the mega road connectivity project could push completion of remaining packages to March 2028, the government informed Parliament on Wednesday, 25 March.
In a written reply in the Rajya Sabha, Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari said the 1,445 Km corridor is being implemented under the Bharatmala Pariyojana across Haryana, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat and Maharashtra.
Out of the total length of the mega project, 929 Km has already been operationalised, according to the minister.
“The Government has taken up the implementation of Delhi-Mumbai Expressway under the Bharatmala Pariyojana which passes through the States of Haryana, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat, and terminates in Mumbai, Maharashtra. The implementation of this corridor, including its spur connectivity, has been taken up in 54 construction packages covering a total length of 1,445 km, out of which 929 km has been operationalised,” Gadkari said.
The Delhi-Vadodara section, a key stretch of the corridor, has seen 697 Km become operational, while 215 Km remains under implementation.
This section is targeted for completion by June 2026, the minister said.

However, construction of Packages 8, 9 and 10 in the Vadodara-Mumbai section, located in Gujarat, has been affected mainly due to delays on the part of contractors, according to the minister.
These packages are now targeted for completion by March 2028, while the remaining sections of the expressway are expected to be completed in 2026.
“The construction progress of the corridor, including that of Packages 8, 9 and 10 of the Vadodara-Mumbai section in the State of Gujarat, has been affected mainly due to delays on part of Contractor.
